Freedom Now Fest celebrates 60th Anniversary of MLK’s Legacy on Lancaster Avenue”

On Sunday, August 3rd, the MLK community commemoration committee proudly hosted the Freedom Now Fest, marking the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s, historic “Freedom Now” speech on Lancaster Avenue. Stretching from 38th to 40th streets, Lancaster Avenue came alive with entertainment, delicious food vendors and powerful tribute exhibitions honoring the civil rights movement. The festival featured inspiring speeches from Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, Senator Vincent Hughes and elder community members who had witnessed the original rally.

This celebration was a collaborative effort powered by local businesses along the corridor including: Plants and People, The Silk Tent, Bodyrock, La Pearl Emporium and various civic organizations, including LA21. The event was a huge success, and will be part of an annual tradition on the Avenue, celebrating history, unity and the spirit of community.
